Sometimes it’s tricky to communicate initiatives which are designed to welcome everyone in – maybe the language and the terminology used appears too complex or the action taken seen as too niche to warrant coverage on social media and other channels. However, it is important to talk about inclusion. Getting the messaging right helps to inform and educate those already connected to an organisation or club, and sharing a story more widely provides an opportunity to reach out to new audiences.

Jon is a writer and editor specialising in inclusion who has worked with LGBTQ+ people in sport at all levels to assist them in sharing inspirational stories of authenticity. He is the founder and lead of Sports Media LGBT+, an industry network, advocacy and consultancy group that helps to amplify under-represented voices and provides a valuable digital platform and community space. He is a committee member for the Sports Journalists’ Association, Football Writers’ Association and InterMediaUK.
