Chris Edmond

Director

Background: Chris is a medical doctor with a background in Emergency Medicine, Cardiology and Occupational Medicine and is currently Medical Director of Occupational Health provider WorkHealth (Channel Islands) Ltd. Chris also continues a part-time role in the Cardiology Department at Jersey General Hospital and provides medical assessments for Social Security incapacity benefits. Prior to becoming a doctor, Chris attended Loughborough University studying Computer Science, where he quickly discovered his cricketing skills were not up to the required international standard to make the university team! After graduating he then had a short career in banking and healthcare management before retraining as a doctor and moving to the island in 2011 with his young family.

Interests: Chris has always been an enthusiastic amateur, having tried his hand at most sports but not been particularly successful at any. He does however retain a passionate belief that sport and physical activity are essential ingredients of good health and a happy life. Chris has a keen interest in community development and is an advisor to the Jersey Community Foundation. He believes in the power of sport to bring people together to build community, particularly at the grass roots and local level. Having attained a Blue Belt in Hapkido in his youth, Chris has recently taken up a Karate class with his children and is enjoying developing his skills alongside them!

‘I passionately believe that sport and active lifestyles are essential to challenging the epidemic of chronic disease we face – not only by encouraging physical activity but also as an opportunity for social connection which can be life changing. I also believe that sport is for all, and that whatever your standard, fitness level, age or disability there should be opportunities for playing, coaching and volunteering that are open and welcoming for you. I am really excited to work with Jersey Sport to open up these opportunities for everyone.’
