Martine Le Guilcher

Swimming and Community Sport Development Officer

Role within Jersey Sport: Martine’s role is to manage, develop and continuously improve the School Swimming programme, the Swim Safe programme, the Adult Swimming programme (both indoor and outdoor) and the Holiday Multi-Sport programme, alongside supporting the development of aquatic sport organisations, strategies and programmes, working with stakeholders such as Swim England, JASA and local clubs.

Previous employment before Jersey Sport: Prior to her appointment with Jersey Sport, Martine was the School Swimming Coordinator with the States of Jersey. Martine has over 15 years experience as a swimming teacher, when she started as a level one swimming teacher at SwimEasy Jersey and Swimrite Jersey. She then moved on to teaching at Aquasplash Jersey working with children from the age of 6 months all the way up to adults. She was then appointed as School Swimming Coordinator in 2014.

High level / sports related qualifications: Martine is a qualified Level 2 Swimming Teacher, level 1 Water Polo Coach and an Aqua Aerobics Instructor. Martine also holds a RLSS National Pool Lifeguard qualification, an STA Open Water Swimming Coach qualification and an STA Open Water Safety Qualification.

Hobbies: Martine is a life member of the Jersey Long Distance Swimming Club and loves to sea swim during the summer months. She swam around Jersey in 2004, aged 15, in a time of 10 hours 23 minutes and 31 seconds. Martine has a degree in Marine Biology and Coastal Ecology from Plymouth University and in her spare time loves to work on different conservation projects around the world.
