Inspiring local sports stars celebrated as the winners of the 2023 Jersey Sport and Move More Jersey Awards are announced!

Jersey’s sporting community gathered at the Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel on 23 November to celebrate the achievements of the inspirational individuals, sporting organisations, schools and businesses who participate, coach or volunteer within sport, and those who enable active opportunities in the island at the 2023 Jersey Sport and Move More Jersey Awards!

During the evening, attended by the Deputy Bailiff of Jersey Mr Robert MacRae and Sports Minister Lucy Stephenson, 13 Awards were presented in recognition of the many achievements in local sport and physical activity, which had taken place between 1 August 2022 and 31 July 2023.

• Transatlantic rowing duo Peter Wright and Steve Hayes were welcomed to the stage as guest speakers, later being awarded with their Local Hero Awards.

• Paralympic equestrian, Simon Laurens, was inducted into the Jersey Sport Hall of Fame, sponsored by Ocorian Trustees.

• An Outstanding Achievement Award was given to Jersey Reds for their outstanding championship league win and for many years of sporting success which has made an exceptional contribution to the island.

• Paul Daniel, Kevin Baudains, Richard Benest and Bob Lawrence were recognised and awarded with the new Valerie and Sid Guy Lifetime Achievement Award for their dedication over a significant sustained period of over 10 years – either by coaching, officiating, volunteering, promoting or working in sport or active living.

• Local Hero Awards were presented to bobsleigher Will Golder, surfer Arlene Maltman, Black Belt Stuart Penn, and transatlantic rowers, Peter Wright and Steve Hayes.
