Jersey Cricket have made workforce development of their coaches and officials a priority, with a particular focus on upskilling more females into these roles.
In 2023, Jersey Cricket were awarded a Volunteer Workforce Grant by Jersey Sport to support the continual development of their coach and official pathways, improving local competition opportunities as a result.
This funding supported the delivery of an ICC Level 1 Coaching course which was held online to improve accessibility and affordability for their local coaches. They upskilled their first female coach at this level, who will support the upcoming delivery of their girls’ introductory cricket programmes moving forward. They hope this programme will support the growth of local girls’ cricket and provide a female role model to inspire young girls to get involved with the sport.
Jersey Cricket also supported local umpires to attend an ICC Level 3 Umpires Training course to support their development through the ICC qualification framework for match officials. This opportunity has supported the sustainability of local competition, enabling the island to retain their ability to host and officiate at international level tournaments both locally and internationally.
Four local umpires have since been invited by the ICC to officiate in competitive fixtures both on and off-island and have begun their training as future umpire tutors. This opportunity not only improves local standards of officiating but also supports the sustainability of their official’s structure. This pathway often benefits older players as they start to transition through the pathway.
