Milestone for volunteer training

Wednesday 20 September 2017

Jersey Sport has now trained its 500th sports club volunteer in safeguarding children.  The 500th volunteer was Holly Gillan, a coach from Walkers Tigers Swimming Club, pictured on the right with fellow coach Jacqui Atherley.

Nikki Holmes, Clubs, Volunteers and Safeguarding Officer for Jersey Sport said: “The course is designed to be as active as possible so that learners are engaged and have the opportunity to meet other volunteers from different sports and share ideas.  This training is an essential part of ensuring that a club is able to fulfil its duty of care towards its junior members so we are delighted that so many volunteers in Jersey have given up their time to take part.”

Jersey Sport delivers a range of training courses including foundation training in safeguarding children and vulnerable adults (accredited by the Jersey Safeguarding Partnership Board), Time to Listen training for Club Welfare Officers (accredited by the NSPCC’s Child Protection in Sport Unit) and anti-doping ‘clean sport’ sessions (accredited by UKAD).  We also organise first aid courses for sports clubs which are run by St John Ambulance and other training events throughout the year.  If you’d like us to deliver a course, get in touch and we’ll see if we can help!
