Jersey Sport to Invest £1 Million into Local Sport in 2026
Jersey athletes and clubs will benefit from a £284,500 Travel Funding investment in 2026, supporting 39 local sports organisations through Jersey Sport in partnership with the Government of Jersey.
The allocation represents the first major milestone in Jersey Sport’s commitment to distribute £1 million into the Island’s sporting community during 2026 — reinforcing a strategic focus on athlete development, organisational sustainability and long-term growth across local sport.
The Travel Funding programme enables clubs and athletes to access higher-level competition and training opportunities not available on-island, strengthening development pathways and broadening competitive experience beyond Jersey.
Delivered through a single annual funding round, the programme allows organisations to plan their full competition calendars with confidence, allocating funding strategically across the year to maximise impact.
All applicants must meet minimum governance standards through Jersey Sport’s Safe and Sustainable Sport Health Check, ensuring funded organisations demonstrate strong leadership, safeguarding and sustainability. Successful organisations are also required to report on the impact of their funding at the end of the calendar year, reinforcing accountability and measurable development outcomes.
Jon Le Fondre, Sport Development Officer (Funding) at Jersey Sport, said:
“We’re proud to support so many sports organisations and athletes in accessing opportunities off-island. Through the support of Government of Jersey, this funding helps remove some of the barriers to competing at a higher level than is available on-island, giving athletes the chance to gain valuable experience and represent Jersey with confidence.
Travel Funding is about ensuring athletes from Jersey have the opportunity to develop and thrive beyond the Island, while strengthening the long-term future of sport locally.”
The impact of Travel Funding is already being demonstrated by beneficiaries supported in 2025.

Channel Islands Surfing Federation highlighted the removal of financial pressure on families when travelling to the GB Cup in Scotland:
“The funding covered flights, vehicles and equipment transport, taking the financial pressure off families and allowing athletes to focus fully on performance. Knowing much of the cost was covered reduced stress and helped the team perform at their best.”

Jersey Judo Association saw immediate competitive success:
“Funding enabled our young judoka to compete in the Kent International and Hampshire Closed Championships. One athlete achieved Gold and two secured Bronze. Just as importantly, all returned with greater confidence, resilience and technical growth.”

For the Channel Islands Federation of Freshwater Anglers, the funding opened new international pathways:
“For the first time, we sent anglers to compete in the British fly-casting competition and the Norwegian Championships, helping prepare for future World Masters and World Championship events. Receiving funding upfront made planning and budgeting significantly easier.”
The 39 organisations awarded funding in 2026 span a wide range of sports — from football, rugby, swimming and cycling to surfing, angling, judo and pétanque — reflecting the breadth and diversity of Jersey’s sporting community.
Travel Funding forms part of Jersey Sport’s wider 2026 investment programme, which will see £1 million distributed across the Island’s sporting sector to support participation, performance, workforce development and sustainable growth.
