Jersey Archery Society – Waterside Double WA1440

Monday 6 May 2019

Fifteen members of Jersey Archery Society travelled to Exbury near Southampton over the bank holiday weekend to attend the Waterside Archers 6th FITA Weekend. This is the fourth year that members of the JAS have attended this event and it is a useful early season outdoor event that assists preparation for the JAS World Record Status Jersey Triple at the end of May.

This year saw a change of format, instead of the ranking round and Head-to-Head on the first day Waterside have changed to the WA 1440 format on both Saturday and Sunday which is less work for both the organisers and field party.

Weather was fine, if a little chilly both days, but the left to right wind on Saturday was somewhat tricky and kept scores suppressed.

Even with the tricky wind and chilly temperatures there were some notable performances with many archers achieving personal bests.

1st U16 Ladies Recurve – Mollie Perrett

1st U16 Gents Recurve – Josh Oxenden

3rd Gents Compound – Francis Rocha

3rd Ladies Recurve – Maria Mitchell

3rd Gents Barebow – Heath Perrett

Of note are the achievements of Josh and Mollie. For Josh, who was attending his first away competition, he gained a PB on Saturday only to better it again on Sunday by 127 points. Mollie improved her PB for the round as well as individual distances, set four new Hampshire County records in the process and came away from the weekend with two qualifying scores for her 2019 Junior Master Bowmen.

Thanks to our drivers for transporting us and our equipment safely to and from the event.
