Fundraising dinner with The British & Irish Lions will enable more young people in Jersey to access sport at all levels

Wednesday 12 May 2021

Jersey Sport are extremely proud to be hosting An Audience with the British & Irish Lions Charity Gala Dinner on Tuesday 15 June 2021, at the Royal Jersey Showground.

The fundraising dinner is being held during The British & Irish Lions training camp in Jersey ahead of the squad’s tour of South Africa.

Proceeds from the dinner will be used by Jersey Sport to enable young people in Jersey, who may not otherwise have the opportunity, to access sport at all levels in order to become the stars of the future, or simply to become more physically active.

The evening will include interviews with The British & Irish Lions players and coaches. An auction of exclusive lots, including limited edition British & Irish Lions merchandise will help raise even more for charitable causes, with 25% of the auction proceeds going towards the Lions Charitable Trust.

Phil Austin, Chairman of Jersey Sport, said: “By purchasing a table to the gala dinner, guests will be helping to inspire a more active Jersey. The proceeds from the evening will provide an opportunity for young people in Jersey, no matter what their background, to access sport either simply for enjoyment and to become more physically active, or to follow a performance pathway to become a sporting star of the future. We’re asking the island’s business and sporting communities to get involved and help us to inspire the next generation of island sports people at all levels, from grassroots to greatness.

While the majority of tables will be sold to raise funds, there will also be a community ballot, which will be launched later this month, to enable 20 members of the public to attend the dinner free of charge.

The Assistant Minister for Economic Development, with responsibility for Sport, Deputy Hugh Raymond, said: “This evening is one of the means by which the Lions’ training camp will not only support our local and visitor economy but also inspire islanders of all ages to become more active. The evening’s primary objective to raise funds but, in spirit of community, a small number of randomly-selected islanders will be there to see and hear from some of the world’s most celebrated sportspeople.

Tickets for An Audience with the British & Irish Lions fundraising dinner will go on sale via the Jersey Sport website on Wednesday 12 May at 12 noon, at: jerseysport.je/charity-gala-dinner
