Lindy Hop Jersey have been awarded £1,200 in 2024 to deliver workforce development opportunities for their instructors. The initiative is expected to directly benefit around 50 participants through the award received by the SUPPORTIN SPORT Fund.
The funding will provide a 75% contribution of the associated costs to enable Lindy Hop Jersey’s instructors to attend a Teacher Training course in Cheltenham, which will provide opportunities to learn new skills, refresh knowledge and connect with teachers from other dance schools. Lindy Hop Jersey are an inclusive community with non-gender defined roles to promote equality within their offer. They hope to inspire more women to take on the traditional ‘lead role’ and provide an environment where same-sex couples, transgender or non-binary persons can feel comfortable dancing in whichever role (or both) they feel most comfortable in. Lindy Hop Jersey hope that this workforce development opportunity will help to retain their current members and encourage new individuals to the sport.
Volunteers from Lindy Hop Jersey have begun implementing their updated teaching techniques with their local classes and have plans to develop and grow the club over the next year. They hope to introduce a beginners programme next year, to introduce new members to the sport and help to support the transition into their mainstream sessions.
