Jersey Sport is pleased to be able to support with the administration and attainment of online DBS/CRB checks for the workforce of local sport organisations.
It is recommended that all sports workforce involved in the management, coordination and/or delivery of regulated activity hold an appropriate DBS/CRB check. Sports workforce includes paid and unpaid coaches, committee members, officials, and volunteers. For more information about Jersey Sport’s Safe and Sustainable Sport framework of quality standards and good practice, visit: Safe and Sustainable Sport • Jersey Sport
Sport workforce involved in a direct delivery role (e.g. coaches, officials, roles which involve direct contact with participants), will require an enhanced DBS. Sport workforce involved in an indirect non-delivery role (e.g. committee members that do not ever have any direct contact or involvement with participants) are required to hold a basic DBS.
There are some resources below which may help your sport organisation understand what type of DBS check each sport workforce must hold, considering not just their role title (e.g. coach, committee member) but also the nature of activities for that specific role:
If your sport organisation requires a DBS/CRB check, please email info@jerseysport.je with the full names of the sport workforce and their personal email address. These details will then be added to the online checking system and individuals will be required to complete the electronic application form which will be emailed to them.
Once the electronic form is completed, the individual will be required to provide ID documentation so they can be verified. This should be via emailed scanned copies or presented in person (by prior arrangement) at our FB Fields office. Once the ID is verified, the check is complete and confirmation of this will be posted to the individual’s home address.
An enhanced DBS check for paid sport workforce is £65 per person and £13 per person for volunteer sport workforce. There is a charge of £40 per person for a basic DBS check. This can be paid by the individual or invoiced to the sport organisation directly. Confirmation of how the DBS check(s) will be paid is required when contacting Jersey Sport. Once a notice of the completed check is received, it will be forwarded to the relevant sport organisation, only if requested. It is the responsibility of the individual to present their DBS certification to their relevant sport organisation when it arrives.
As there is now a charge for DBS/CRB checks, it is important that sport organisations advise their sport workforce to register with the online automated update service as soon as the paper DBS certificate arrives. This will mean that they will not have to repeat this process, as the DBS check will be automatically renewed. The DBS renewal for volunteer sport workforce is free of charge.
More information regarding the automated update services for DBS/CRB checks, and ways to check your own certificates or update your contact details, can be accessed via the links below:
