Swimming and Community Sport Development Officer
About Me
I’m Martine, and I lead the development and delivery of swimming and aquatic programmes at Jersey Sport. I’m passionate about helping people of all ages build confidence in the water, whether it’s their first swim or their first open-water experience.
Role & Responsibilities
I manage, develop, and continuously improve a range of aquatic and sport programmes, including School Swimming, Swim Safe, Adult Swimming (indoor and open water), and the Sport Taster Holiday Programme. I also support the growth and strategic development of aquatic sport initiatives by collaborating closely with stakeholders such as Swim England, JASA, and local clubs.
Career Journey
Before joining Jersey Sport, I served as the School Swimming Coordinator for the States of Jersey. With over 15 years of experience in swimming education, I began as a Level 1 swimming teacher at SwimEasy Jersey and Swimrite Jersey, later teaching at Aquasplash Jersey to learners from six months to adults. In 2014, I became School Swimming Coordinator, furthering my commitment to high-quality aquatic education across the island.

Fun Facts / Personal Interests
I’m a life member of the Jersey Long Distance Swimming Club and love sea swimming, particularly in summer. At 15, I completed a solo swim around Jersey in 10 hours, 23 minutes, and 31 seconds. I hold a degree in Marine Biology and Coastal Ecology from Plymouth University and enjoy working on conservation projects worldwide, particularly sea turtle initiatives, which have deepened my passion for protecting our oceans.
Why Jersey Sport / Achievements & Highlights
I’m proud to have developed and led a range of impactful programmes at Jersey Sport, with a personal highlight being our Adult Swimming programme—both indoor and outdoor—due to its positive impact on confidence, wellbeing, and connection to the water. Working here allows me to turn my passion into purpose, helping people of all ages and abilities feel safer and more empowered in aquatic environments.
