Between September and December 2025, over 500 hours of sport delivery will take place in schools across Jersey, giving pupils the chance to experience a wide range of sporting activities during the school day.
Following the success of the 2024/25 pilot, demand for Jersey Sport’s SPORTIN SCHOOLS Programme has grown significantly. This year, the programme has more than doubled in size, welcoming 18 schools (up from 8) and 13 sports (up from 8).
A new SPORTIN SCHOOLS Secondary pilot will also target teenage girls, aiming to increase physical activity among this underrepresented group.
“It’s incredible to witness the development of this programme in such a short space of time. Following the recent review of Jersey Sport, it became clear that the sporting community expects more from us as the island’s leading sport organisation. This programme is a clear demonstration of our commitment to supporting sport and ensuring that children across both primary and secondary schools have access to meaningful and inclusive sporting opportunities within the school setting.”
— Chris Riley, School Sport Development Officer, Jersey Sport
Positive Impact for Local Sports Organisations
The programme is also benefiting local clubs.
“The SPORTIN SCHOOLS programme has been very successful for Samurai Kickboxing. It has enabled us to establish a new permanent class at Grouville School, increase our existing class numbers, and, more importantly, allowed several hundred students to experience kickboxing classes who otherwise may not have.”
— Matt Collins, Samurai Kickboxing
