Children aged four to 14 years old will now be able to take part in a free weekly 2K parkrun around the Waterfront and harbour area, thanks to the creation of the Waterfront junior parkrun, supported by Jersey Sport.
Taking place every Sunday, starting at 09:00 from Jardins de la Mer, the course is marshalled, so children are in sight whilst running the entire 2K course over a mixture of paths and grass.
Cirsty de Gruchy, Move More Jersey Manager said, “junior parkrun is exactly the type of initiative Move More Jersey encourages youngsters to take part in. With 81% of children in Jersey not reaching the World Health Organisation’s recommended guidelines for physical activity, this event is a great way of helping to combat the problem of inactivity within the island.”
Waterfront junior parkrun Co-Event Director, Emma Sterry said, “The Waterfront junior parkrun has arrived with massive thanks to Jersey Sport for funding our start up and to our parkrun ambassador Andrew for brilliant support. Huge thanks also to our bunch of brilliant volunteers for helping us kick off our first ever junior parkrun in Jersey last Sunday.”
To take part, children should register online for free with junior parkrun before their first run. People are encouraged wherever possible, to walk, jog, cycle or use public transport to attend the event.
