Jersey Sport Awards Over £134,000 to Boost Local Sports

Friday 4 July 2025

By Steven Anderson, Media and Communications Officer

Jersey Sport is thrilled to share that £134,122 has been awarded to 26 local sport organisations through the first round of the 2025 SUPPORTIN SPORT Fund.

The fund was launched in 2024 thanks to a generous legacy left by the late Valerie Guy, whose kindness continues to inspire and support our island’s sporting community.

The SUPPORTIN SPORT Fund was created to honour Valerie’s incredible generosity by giving back directly to Jersey’s sports clubs, groups, and organisations. Our goal is to help build safe, welcoming, and lasting opportunities for islanders of all ages and abilities to get active and involved in sport.

Since its launch in May 2024, the fund has already made a big impact, distributing over £100,000 to local sport organisations. Thanks to the amazing success of year one, Jersey Sport has boosted the fund to £150,000 for 2025 — spreading the support over two rounds to help even more great projects get off the ground.

The fund is open to all non-government sports groups based in Jersey — from clubs and associations to businesses — and offers financial support to help bring fresh ideas to life, coordinate resources, make positive changes, and create new chances for people to enjoy being active.

We’ve also brought the Volunteer Workforce Grant under this fund’s umbrella, making it easier for organisations to apply for support with workforce training, qualifications, and upskilling — all vital to growing and sustaining a strong sporting community.

Jersey Sport’s Grants and Sport Development Officer, Jonathan Le Fondre, said: “This round of the SUPPORTIN SPORT Fund application window presented several high-quality development plans to deliver impactful local sport projects. To fund 26 different sport organisations is fantastic and shows the importance of how this fund serves to improve facilities, upskill workforces and activate new participation programmes.”

Jersey Sport Chief Executive Officer, David Kennedy, added: “We are continually inspired by the ambition and dedication of our island’s sports clubs and associations, who are working tirelessly to make our community a better place to live through impactful and meaningful sports projects. Their vision and commitment to positive change through sport is something we are proud to support. As an organisation, we remain focused on creating additional funding opportunities to help bring these plans to life. We are therefore delighted to announce that, with this latest round of funding, we have now distributed over £600,000 to local sport so far this year—an investment that reflects our shared belief in the power of sport to transform lives and strengthen our island community.”
