Jersey Sport appoint new interim Chair and four new Directors to their Board

Wednesday 13 September 2023

Jersey Sport is delighted to announce the appointment of four new Directors to their Board and a new Interim Chair, all on a voluntary basis. After six years at the helm of Jersey Sport’s Board of Directors, Phil Austin MBE is today handing over his reigns to one of the founding Directors of Jersey Sport, Steve Law.

Steve Law will become the new interim Chair of Jersey Sport for a maximum of 12 months to allow for a period of consolidation whilst the organisation beds in four new Directors and the Government of Jersey’s review on sport in the island takes place. The organisation received 36 quality applications for the position of voluntary Director to the Jersey Sport Board and the four new appointed members, Alex Mollin, Kristie Potts, Jamie Pestana and John Small will start their official roles in November. Each new Director has a strong background in both playing or volunteering in sport, alongside a broad base of skills and experience that will benefit the organisation and sport in Jersey going forward.

Alex Mollin is a professional Golf teacher with considerable experience and knowledge of playing and coaching sport, she also owns and manages her own Golf and leisure business at Goose Green, St Peter.

Kristie Potts is an experienced senior manager and corporate Board member.  Currently is employed at Appleby, and formerly worked at Santander International and HSBC. Kristie is also an active volunteer in Rugby and Swimming.

Jamie Pestana is a senior manager at Sure and previously with Jersey Post.  Jamie played Football in his younger days, is a keen cyclist and volunteered in supporting his children’s sporting activities.

John Small is an Associate Director with Cyan Services.  He formerly worked at the JFSC and the Government of Jersey, Customs and Immigration.  John has been involved in many sports including Triathlon, Running and Basketball – both as participant and organiser.

Steve Law, Interim Chair of Jersey Sport said, “I’m pleased to be stepping into the role of Interim Chair for Jersey Sport at a time when sport and physical activity in the island is in the spotlight and would like to welcome Alex, Kristie, Jamie and John to the Board.

Since the formation of Jersey Sport back in 2017, the organisation has grown significantly and made a massive impact upon the lives of many islanders as we continue our mission to inspire, lead and enable positive wellbeing for all through lifelong engagement with sport and physical activity. I’ve never worked with a more dedicated and passionate bunch of people that really want to make a difference, and that is extremely exciting.”

Jersey Sport will recruit a permanent Chairperson in Spring 2024.  Jersey Sport would like to thank Phil Austin for his exceptional leadership of the organisation over the last seven years.  Ed Daubeney will step down from the Board after six years in November and Jersey Sport thank him for his invaluable contribution.
