After school table-tennis sessions kick off in the island this week for as little as £3 per session.
The Tuesday evenings at the Geoff Reed Centre at FB Fields are for children in school years 3 to 8 and run over six weeks through until the end of March.
“We’re running the course to introduce Jersey children to the second most popular game in the world,” said lead coach Tyler Gosselin.
“We will teach them the basic forehand and backhand shots, spins, smashes and serves through fun games and they can continue to learn more about the sport through the Jersey Table Tennis Association and then keep playing all their lives.
“Table tennis is brilliant for developing good hand to eye co-ordination, agility and flexibility and it doesn’t matter what the weather’s like outside.”
Jersey Sport prides itself on ensuring its activities are value for money and at £18 for the six weeks it is hoped the sessions will introduce children to the sport for the first time, while also offering more experienced young people a chance to further develop their skills.
“These taster sessions are a fantastic opportunity for children to potentially try out a new sport, and table tennis mixes a range of skills and enjoyment throughout,” said community programmes officer Dan Garton.
“Participants will have the opportunity to play fun games whilst learning the skills of the game. We are hoping to add more table tennis sessions in the near future, working alongside the Jersey Table Tennis Association.”
