Press Release from HSBC
Islanders are being urged to get in the saddle this summer as HSBC holds its inaugural, fun, family friendly ‘Let’s Ride Jersey’ cycling event in the island.
The all day event, which begins at 09:30 on Sunday 19th August, is a celebration of cycling and part of a nationwide initiative, with the aim of inspiring more people to get out and about on their bikes.
On the day there will be fun ride-outs for all ages and abilities from Les Jardins de la Mer to Bel Royal. For the more competitive rider, there will be a sprint challenge for all ages, along with a final invitation only challenge for cycle clubs.
The event hub, at Les Jardins de la Mer, will host trial bike displays, bike maintenance, a children’s obstacle course, food stalls and local cycle shop and club stalls.
It is hoped that ‘Let’s Ride Jersey’ will help islanders of all abilities enjoy recreational cycling, with a view to boosting physical and mental wellbeing and, in the long term, help to create a greener, happier and healthier island.
Everyone is invited to come along to this new free event and enjoy the day with friends and family.
Tracy Garrad, CEO, HSBC Channel Islands and Isle of Man, said: “Let’s Ride has proven to be a huge success in the UK, and we are really excited about bringing it to Jersey for the first time. We believe cycling offers some real benefits – it helps people stay active and healthy, improves mental wellbeing, and is a fantastic way to enjoy Jersey’s beautiful scenery. Also, more people cycling has a really positive impact on our environment too.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming people at Les Jardins de la Mer in August to enjoy a leisurely ride-out, some fun activities, and get inspired to cycle more in Jersey.”
Ashley Hillier, Chairman of the Jersey Cycling Association Youth Academy (JCAYA), which is sponsored by HSBC and will be represented at Let’s Ride Jersey, commented: “Our goal is to encourage more young people to get on their bikes and enjoy cycling, whether it’s for fun or competitively, and HSBC’s support over the past year has been instrumental in helping us to achieve that.
“HSBC’s Let’s Ride event in August will be the perfect opportunity for people to celebrate the joy of cycling, and we hope that it will inspire many more families to venture out and enjoy one of the most accessible forms of recreation.”
Let’s Ride Jersey is a free event. However, places on the ride out and sprint challenge must be booked in advance via the booking website www.letsride.co.uk/events/jersey
