JERSEY SPORT ARE SEEKING VOLUNTEERS TO JOIN OUR NEWLY FORMED INCLUSION ADVISORY GROUP
The new Inclusion Advisory Group will advise the organisation in relation to equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) matters to assist the development, operations and activity relating to sport across the island. The group will provide guidance and advice so sporting opportunities, provided by Jersey Sport and by community sport organisations, are accessible and enjoyable for all islanders.
Jersey Sport are currently looking to recruit members for this advisory group. We would like members to consist of passionate individuals from a variety of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives to help guide and drive our work.
To be successful in joining the advisory group, members will need significant knowledge, lived experience and/or experience of operating at a strategic level in either the public or private sector. They will also need to bring a breadth and depth of knowledge in equality matters. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from females, those from the LGBT+ community, members of the Polish or Portuguese community and anyone with a passion and involvement in disability sport.
Individuals with a general background and passion for equality and diversity are also encouraged to apply to become members of this advisory group.
Recruitment for these voluntary roles will be based on both the technical ability to fulfil the role and key behavioural competencies set against our organisational values.
WHAT IS THE INCLUSION ADVISORY GROUP?
The Inclusion Advisory Group (IAG) is key in promoting sport for everyone and enables us to increase awareness, understanding and knowledge of inclusion, equality and diversity, so that we will better meet the needs of all our communities who take part in sport from a participation point of view to officiating, coaching, volunteering and committee involvement.
The IAG will be made up of representatives with knowledge and experience of specific aspects of equality, diversity, and inclusion such as:
- Race, nationality, and ethnic origin
- Age
- Gender reassignment
- Sex
- Sexual orientation
- Disability
- Mental health
- Religion or belief
- Pregnancy and maternity
- Marriage and civil partnership
ROLE OF THE INCLUSION ADVISORY GROUP
- To provide support and advice in relation to equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) matters to assist development and operations.
- To review performance and data to proactively deliver equality of opportunity in all areas: from playing, coaching and officiating to administration.
- To advise on specific interventions to increase participation by the whole community.
- To ensure Jersey Sport is operating in a fair and accountable way with regard to equality.
- To be a vehicle for increased representation of traditionally under-represented groups in sport, including committees.
- To monitor and review the impact of Jersey Sport’s and other community sport organisations’ work in relation to EDI.
- To identify areas of concern or poor equality performance, whether on the grounds of age, race, sex, gender reassignment, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation, marriage and civil partnership and pregnancy and maternity.
- To ensure that equality data is current and up to date.
Key skills and experience required: Essential
- To be able to identify key issues and trends that may help to promote sport through inclusion and diversity interventions
- Experience of working with diverse groups and individuals who have different ethnicity and cultural backgrounds
- To be able to identify key equality issues and to support the identification and delivery of solutions
- To be able to successfully network with key staff and contacts
- To be a positive team player within a group that will provide direction to Jersey Sport and other sporting organisations
Key skills and experience required: Desirable
- Possess a good understanding of the sporting context in Jersey
- To be able to undertake and utilise relevant research and analyses data, as required, to assist in making informed decisions
- Basic and relevant presentation skills (if required)
- To have knowledge of the key legislation aspects of inclusion and diversity and to be able to promote inclusion and diversity as part of a group

- Ability to communicate effectively and confidently, both in written form and verbally
- Positive attitude to the requirements of the role
- Capacity to handle confidential information sensitively
- Amiable manner
- Ability to work as part of a team group
- Ability to work in a professional manner as a representative of the IAG
- Ability to meet and work outside of normal working hours if required

- To have existing positive contacts within the sports industry and the wider community
- To have a positive nature
- To have existing contacts with the local business community
- To have existing contacts within local community groups
- To have a knowledge of existing equality groups in the local area and who to contact
