Due to a combination of rising living costs and islanders having less access to disposable income, sport is feeling the pressure to keep its offer accessible whilst balancing meeting the demands of running costs and overheads to continue providing local sport. Securing sponsorship and alternative income streams can also sometimes feel highly competitive and unachievable.
Recognising these challenges, we’ve pulled together some information and tips to help your organisation access funding that’s available and help generate more income to support your sport organisation’s plans to assist with sustainability and growth.

Crowdfunding is a powerful way to engage your members and local community while supporting the future of your sports organisation.
With RaceNation, local sports clubs and not-for-profits can easily set up fundraising campaigns and event registrations—all in one place. Their SportsGiving platform allows individuals to create personalised fundraising pages, whether for events, new equipment, facility upgrades, or travel costs. You can even split donations between multiple causes.
Jersey-registered charities can benefit from the automatic collection of Jersey Gift Support data, helping you claim an extra 25p for every £1 donated from Revenue Jersey.
Getting started is simple: create an event or fundraising page, add a custom donate button to your website, or share a QR code that links directly to your campaign. The RaceNation team also offers demonstrations and ongoing support—just email them at hello@sportsgiving.co.uk.

What membership options does your sport offer, and are your fees competitive?
Many participants want to get involved quickly and prefer to ‘try before they buy’. Offering taster sessions or introductory packages is a great way to encourage sign-ups and remove barriers to entry.
Does your membership offer flexible payment options to suit different needs? Reviewing these regularly can make a big difference. Options like ‘pay and play’ or monthly direct debits can help participants manage costs more easily than a single, upfront payment.
Your sports organisation can apply to become a registered Jersey charity if it has a written constitution and is either based in Jersey or carries out substantial activity in or from the island. You must also meet the ‘charity test’, proving your organisation has only charitable purposes and benefits the public—such as promoting public participation in sport.
Key benefits include:
Increased credibility – All registered charities are listed publicly, helping build trust with participants and funders.
Access to funding – Some donors only give to registered charities.
Tax relief – Eligible charities can receive tax exemptions on major purchases like equipment or facility upgrades.
If you’re considering registration, visit the Jersey Charity Commissioner’s website for more information.

This is when a school, company, charity, Government department or other individual pays you to deliver a given service. For example, delivering coaching sessions in schools, or hiring of your clubhouse for birthday parties or events. Exploring opportunities to deliver services for organisations with financial remuneration can be a great way to generate revenue and income for your sport.
As well as the funding available through Jersey Sport, there are other funding opportunities that are accessible to charitable and not-for-profit sport organisations through local organisations. New opportunities often become available, and members within your sport organisation may know of some match-funding schemes within local workplaces that support good causes.
