Grants and Sport Development Officer
About Me
I’m Jon, and I love helping islanders of all ages enjoy sport and physical activity. Whether it’s giving someone a helping hand to get started, supporting our amazing local sports, ensuring they’re safe and well-run, or helping with travel to exciting competitions—I’m passionate about making sport accessible and rewarding for everyone.
Role & Responsibilities
As Grant and Sport Development Officer, I lead several programmes that support sport across Jersey:
SPORTS ACCESS Programme: Helps children and teens (0–17) overcome financial barriers by covering sport costs—such as fees and equipment—through grants directed to vetted local sports organisations.
SUPPORT IN SPORT Fund: Provides financial support to Jersey-based non-government sports organisations to build safe, sustainable, and more inclusive sporting opportunities.
Travel Grant: Offers one-off grants to local sport organisations to cover off-island competition or training travel costs for amateur athletes.
Safe & Sustainable Sport Health Check: Uses a traffic-light governance framework to assess organisations, rewarding those with Green or Amber status with access to funding and programme referrals.
Career Journey
After 28 years in the finance industry, I joined the Jersey Football Association, where I spent almost six years leading governance and local competitions, while supporting development work with local clubs. I feel privileged to work within Jersey sport, supporting incredible volunteers and professionals.
