Move More Coach

Role within Jersey Sport: As a Move More Coach, Joana’s role is very diverse helping with several Move More Jersey programmes. She regularly supports Move More Walks (mainly level 1 and 2), Cycle Without Limits, Move More Cycle Rides, Move More Buggy Walks and the government’s Family Food and Fitness programme. Every day is different and Joana really enjoys her role because it allows her to meet a lot of people in the local community.

Employment history: Joana has previously worked as a sports coach at the Portuguese Winter Sports Federation in Portugal. She coordinated several sport projects at national level with the aim of developing and giving everyone the opportunity to have contact with winter sports. For several years Joana was a monitor at children’s summer camps, as well as summer camps for children with disabilities. When Joana arrived in Jersey, she started volunteering at Cycle Without Limits whilst improving her English.

High level / sport related qualifications: Joana has a degree in Sports Sciences, a masters in Exercise and Health with the thesis – Influence of two physical activity programmes on the development of motor skills in people with Down’s syndrome and the 1st year of a PhD in the same area of studies. Coach qualifications: Alpine Skiing Level 1 (teaching); Adapted Alpine Skiing Level 1 (teaching), British Cycling Ride Leadership Award level 1 and SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (teaching).

Hobbies: Joana’s biggest hobby is skiing, but because she can’t ski in Jersey, in her free time she likes swimming in the sea and outdoor activities, such as cycling. She also likes walking around Jersey and discovering the wonderful landscapes of the island. Whenever possible, she really likes to travel, especially to destinations with ski resorts!
