2025 SUPPORTIN SPORT FUND AWARDEE
Jersey Long Distance Swimming
Jersey Long Distance Swimming were awarded £1,500 in Round 1 of the 2025 fund, to obtain on-water safety cover to enhance swimmer inclusion, support coaching, and allow volunteers from the Jersey Aquatic Rescue Club (JARC) to earn RLSS community service hours. The initiatives are expected to directly benefit over 200 participants through the award received by the SUPPORTIN SPORT Fund.
JARC will support Tuesday evening and Sunday swims at St Catherine’s by providing on-water safety cover, enhancing swimmer participation, enabling coaches to focus on novice swimmers, and offering more inclusive, tailored support—while also allowing JARC volunteers to gain community service hours toward the RLSS William Henry award.
UPDATE
The project enabled Jersey Long Distance Swimming Club to enhance its open water sessions by introducing additional on‑water support, which improved both safety and the quality of training. This allowed approximately 80 swimmers to benefit from more flexible sessions, including the ability to attempt longer distances and train in smaller, ability-based groups rather than remaining in fixed pods. The initiative also contributed to a membership increase of 21 swimmers over the summer, while improving skill development and engagement. Overall, the project supported the club’s longer-term objective of developing open water swimming capability and sustaining participation through higher-quality session delivery.
