SUPPORTIN SPORT FUND
SEE HER RUN

See Her Run have been awarded £4,970 in 2024 to deliver a targeted running initiative for teenage girls. The programme is expected to directly benefit around 75 participants through the award received by the SUPPORTIN SPORT Fund.

See Her Run are a new running club who have been established to support and encourage females, principally young girls in school years 10-13, to get involved in running. This targeted initiative hopes to create an inclusive environment to support any female who aspires to run for 30 minutes (or more!) at any pace. The programme will be delivered twice weekly using outdoor spaces around the island. It aims to ensure the sustainability of the programme by empowering their participants to become running fitness leaders themselves and in time, lead runs for new participants. Funding from this award will also facilitate the development of an ‘Inclusion Fund’ to support participants who have financial barriers to accessing running, like membership fees or running kit, including trainers.

LATEST NEWS…

The See Her Run programme has grown rapidly, providing a safe space for teenage girls to be supported on their running journey. Since successfully launching at the run for Kezia in September 2024, over 50 girls are welcomed on a term-time basis to group runs twice weekly (Tuesdays and Thursdays). They also regularly take part in community events, such as the Big Maggy’s Night Lights Treasure run and Parkrun.

See Her Run are visiting local schools, including JCG, Beaulieu, Grainville, Hautlieu, Les Quennevais, Haute Valle and Le Rocquier, to promote the initiative at assemblies and wellbeing events. Collaboration with local sport organisations have also been successful for attracting new members, as Jersey Rugby Club’s Juniors and Minis teenage girls can concur.

The organisation has also been well supported by a number of community stakeholders, including Jersey Development Company who have provided use of storage units for participant’s bags during each session, and TDS Limited who have provided free t-shirts. All sessions are facilitated by a strong base of volunteers, which has grown to 13 including three new volunteers aged 20-30 yrs, which was a target age range. See Her Run are looking for more young volunteers to sustain their offer and will be supporting these individuals with upskilling in UK Athletics Run Leader qualifications.
