Rock ‘n’ Road Runners (in partnership with Velocity) have been awarded £6,000 in 2024 to deliver a targeted initiative focused on supporting mothers to become more active. The initiative is expected to directly benefit around 30 participants through the award received by the SUPPORTIN SPORT Fund.
The programme aims to empower mothers to regain confidence in their physical capabilities and enhance their mental well-being through regular exercise. The 12-week programme, delivered by Velocity, will include weekly endurance training and complimentary strength training sessions with on-site childcare provision at a low cost to participants. Rock ‘n’ Road Runners will provide a pathway and community to support and sustain the engagement of participants in running and active lifestyles as they transition out of the programme.
The first Mum to 5km programme was fully booked, supporting their first group of new mums in their journey back to exercise. The programme has provided opportunities to regain their confidence and fitness, providing an accessible pathway into sport. The group have completed weekly running and cross-fit sessions throughout their 12 weeks and will be supported in their transition into mainstream sessions once the programme is complete.
