Jersey Cycling Association have been awarded £300 in 2024 to support a targeted initiative to help new or inexperienced riders transition into racing. The initiative is expected to directly benefit around 20 participants through the award received by the SUPPORTIN SPORT Fund.
Jersey Cycling Association (JCA) are launching this new programme after identifying barriers for new or inexperienced riders who often enjoy riding recreationally but rarely compete in organised races. This initiative therefore aims to support riders across a three-week programme to build their confidence and learn the skills and etiquette necessary for track races. The programme will conclude with a mini ‘track-race’ where participants will practice and apply their new skills with the hope they will transition into JCA division 4 races. Funding from this award will also provide a free pathway into the participant’s first competitive race, to avoid finances being an additional barrier. This progressive cycle coaching programme will be open to all islanders, but specifically would like to target new female riders into racing.
