Did you know? Since 2020 we have provided cycling sessions for over 15,000 people!

We are also accredited by The Bikeability Trust

Bikeability

We are passionate about providing opportunities for all children to learn how to ride and cycle safely on the roads. With a range of progressive courses and qualifications available, we hope to educate children encouraging them to choose active travel for years to come.

Cycle 4 Jersey

We run course in schools and throughout the school holidays which can be viewed and booked below in the course timetable.

Bikeability

Our Balance Bike sessions help children develop key cycling skills in a traffic-free environment while having fun. Children build confidence through games that improve balance and prepare them for learning to ride a bike.

Our Learn to Ride course is designed for children who want to learn to ride for the first time. Delivered in a traffic-free environment, the course helps children build confidence, learn balancing, pedalling, braking and cornering skills whilst also learning how to get on and off the cycle safely. Sessions run for 1 hour.

Cycling with Confidence is a beginner-friendly course for children who can already pedal independently but need to build confidence in areas such as cornering, speed control, and stopping safely. The course focuses on improving overall confidence. Sessions run across 2 x 2-hour sessions.

Family Cycling with Confidence helps families build cycling skills and confidence together, complementing the Bikeability training we already offer for children and adults. Suitable for both new and experienced riders, sessions are led by qualified instructors and tailored to each family's needs. Training takes place in a traffic-free environment and can include adaptive cycles, cargo bikes, e-bikes, and bikes with child seats.

The Bikeability Level 1 course aims to develop mastery in cycle handling in a traffic-free environment and prepares riders for cycling on the road. Riders MUST already be able to start and stop, pedal and turn efficiently before attending this course. Children will be taught good cycling habits such as cycle, clothing and helmet checks before riding.

Please note, this course DOES NOT qualify your child to ride on the road unaccompanied.

The session consists of a single 2-hour session.  At Level 1, riders will learn to carry out and improve on the following:

  • Prepare themselves for a journey
  • Check their cycle is ready for a journey
  • Set off, pedal, slow down and stop appropriately
  • Looking behind
  • Cycling one handed
  • Avoiding obstacles
  • Turning and controlling speed
  • Riding in single formation and pairs as part of a group

There is a rider pass criteria, which you can view by clicking the button below. On completion of the Bikeability Level 1 programme, each rider will be provided with a pass or working towards certificate.

Bikeability Level 1 – Pass Criteria

Riders must have successfully demonstrated they are confident and have achieved a pass in Bikeability Level 1 criteria before they start Bikeability Level 2 training.

Bikeability Level 2 aims to develop riders’ skills and confidence for cycling on single-lane roads and simple junctions with mostly moderate motor traffic flows. The programme will also prepare riders for cycling on more complex, often busier, or faster roads and junctions.

Bikeability Level 2 consists of 3 x 2 – 2.5-hour sessions.

At Bikeability Level 2, riders will learn to carry out and improve on the following:

  • Road awareness and communication
  • Road safety knowledge
  • Cycle safely, responsibly, identify and respond to hazards
  • What different road signs and road markings mean
  • How to ride in a group on the road
  • How to perform and negotiate turns on the road
  • How to pass parked cars
  • How to maintain suitable riding positions
  • Riders’ confidence on the road

Riders’ ability to ride a journey

Bikeability Level 2 – Pass Criteria

On completion of Bikeability Level 2, each rider will be provided with a pass or working towards certificate.

This course combines the Bikeability Level 1 and Bikeability 2 syllabus to allow those who have not yet undertaken Level 1 but are ready to take on the challenge of Level 2, the opportunity to participate.

Riders MUST be able to ride confidently, competently and consistently in a traffic-free environment. This involves starting and stopping with control, steering the cycle safely and accurately. The Level 1 and 2 syllabus described above is what is covered on this combined course.

Please note: if riders are unable to demonstrate Bikeability Level 1 skills confidently in a playground scenario on this course, they will not be allowed to progress onto the Bikeability Level 2 road section.

The session consists of 3 x 3-hour sessions.

Bikeability Level 1+2 – Pass Criteria

On completion of the Bikeability Level 1+2 programme, each rider will be provided with a pass or working towards certificate.

Riders must have successfully passed Bikeability Level 2 before they start Level 3 training.

Bikeability Level 3 course aims to develop riders’ skills and confidence so they can ride in diverse road environments, including complex, often busy roads and junctions, sometimes with speed limits above 30 mph. Riders will be asked to plan and successfully ride their own journeys through complex junctions.

The session consists of 1 x 3 hour session. Riders will learn to carry out and improve on the following:

  • Planning a journey
  • Plan to and ride assertively everywhere cycling is permitted
  • Maintain suitable riding positions in the road
  • Cooperate with and respect other road users (including avoiding driver blind spots and riding with others)
  • Pass queuing traffic and use junctions controlled by traffic lights (if present)
  • Use cycle infrastructure and multi lane roads (if present)
  • Correctly navigate single and multi-lane roundabouts
  • Ride on roads with speeds above 30 mph (if present)

Bikeability Level 3 – Pass Criteria

On completion of Bikeability Level 3, each rider will be provided with a pass or working towards certificate.

Family Bikeability helps families build confidence cycling together, plan enjoyable rides, and swap car journeys, such as the school run, for cycling. Whether you're new to cycling or already ride regularly, qualified instructors will tailor the session to your family’s or groups needs.

Sessions are for up to six people and must include at least one adult (18+) and one child (under 18). All participants must be able to ride and stop confidently before attending.

Training starts at a location of your choice and progresses onto local roads and shares user paths, helping your family develop the skills and confidence to cycle together safely.
