The Jersey Sport cycle maintenance session aims to introduce young people from Year 5+ the mechanical principles behind how their bicycles work. It will give them an opportunity to learn about different parts of the bicycle, how those parts work, and how to spot if a cycle is not safe to ride. This will include a basic M check and puncture repair.
This session is primarily “hands on” and attendees will be expected to get “stuck in”, hands will get dirty and greasy! Please note this is a maintenance course and will not involve any cycling.
Our Cycle Maintenance session is a 1-day course with the following dates available:
Session 1: Tuesday 20 December 10:00-14:00 – Andium Room Samares Nurseries
Session 2: Wednesday 21 December 10:00-14:00 – Langford Sports Centre (Lower level outside the gymnasium)
Things to bring: Participants should bring their own bicycles, a water bottle and some lunch with them. They should wear tight fitting old clothing, which they don’t mind getting a bit dirty! We will provide rubber gloves, but if children wish to bring their own they will be welcome to do so. Children must wear closed toe shoes for this course, ideally trainers.
We highly encourage you to bring your own cycle if you have access to one. However, Jersey sport have a small fleet of cycles available for loan upon prior request on a first come first serve basis. Please email chloe.bougourd@jerseysport.je with your child’s height (cm), inside leg length (cm) and the dates/course your child will be attending If you would like to arrange the loan of a bike for one of our courses
